The movie is riddled with occult symbols and allusions to a “New Order”. We’ll look at the history of Sherlock Holmes, the origins of the symbols found within the movie and its meaning in today’s context.

Inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, the movie Sherlock Holmes brings back to life the famous detective of the nineteen century. The plot revolves around murders that are apparently connected with occult rituals. This leads Sherlock into the mysterious world of secret societies and political conspiracies. Doyle’s works contained some vague references to occultism or Freemasonry; the movie, however, focuses solely around those themes and incorporates elements that are very relevant in today’s context: a New World Order lead by secret societies.

Although no real life secret society are actually mentioned, numerous symbols and references are peppered throughout the movie taken directly from Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism or the Illuminati. Cleverly embedded into the scenes and never really explained, those symbols can almost be considered hints to insiders concerning the real inspirations of the movie. Let’s look at the Masonic background of the original author of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle, and how this influence has been taken to the “next level” in the movie.

Arthur Conan Doyle “Spiritualist and Freemason”

Doyle was born into an Irish Catholic family in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1859. At age eleven, he was sent to a Jesuit school, Stonyhurst College, in which he was said to have spent “five unhappy and lonely years”. After obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Surgery from Edinburgh University, Doyle developed a great interest for spiritualism . In an article appeared in MQ (the official Journal of the United Grand Lodge of England), Freemason Yasha Beresiner explains Conan Doyle’s interest for spiritualism and Masonry:

“He first set up a practice with a fellow student Dr Budd, but soon parted company having been accused of not pulling his weight, and moved, with his newly wedded wife Louise Hawkins, to Southsea near Portsmouth in Hampshire where he established himself as an eye specialist. It was here that between 1885 and 1888 he attended a number of table turning sittings at the home of General Drayson a teacher at Greenwich Naval College, who was one of his patients. These sessions were experimental and Doyle was critical both of the procedures and the ritual involved, which he called a farce. He also questioned the intellect of the sitters. But he was hooked. In 1887, the year he became a freemason, he joined the Society for Psychical Research, this was a public declaration, as it were, of his interest and belief in the occult.

It was in this state of mind, exceedingly curious and now seriously delving into the world of spiritualism, that on the 26th of January 1887 Arthur Conan Doyle was initiated into Freemasonry at the Phoenix Lodge No 257 in Southsea, Hampshire. He was 27 years old.”
-Yasha Beresiner, Arthur Conan Doyle Spiritualist and Freemason, MQ, July 2007

It was the Phoenix Lodge no. 257 where Doyle befriended a certain Dr. James Watson, who became the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes’ trusty sidekick. Beresiner continues:

“It would be logical to presume that Doyle came into Freemasonry expecting, maybe hoping, to discover elements of the spiritualism that now occupied his mind. He was certainly well recommended. His proposer was W. D. King, later Sir William David King, Deputy-Lieutenant for Hampshire, a most prominent public man in Portsmouth who was elected Mayor of the borough on four separate occasions. His seconder was Sir John Brickwood an equally respected and successful Brewer in the city. Doyle rose rapidly through the degrees. On 23 February 1887 he was passed to the second degree and a month later, on 23 March he was made a full-fledged Master Mason.”
- Ibid

Doyle then resigned from Freemasonry only to rejoin several times during his life. Masonry was sometimes mentioned in Doyle’s writings, which were not all focused on Sherlock Holmes. In The Land of Mist, published in 1926, Doyle describes the character Weatherby:

“… that is a pompous ass named Weatherby. He is one of those who wander about on the obscure edges of Masonry, talking with whispers and reverence on mysteries where no mystery is. Spiritualism, with its very real and awful mysteries, is, to him, a vulgar thing because it brought consolation to common folk, but he loves to read papers on the Palladian Cultus, ancient & accepted Scottish rites and baphometic figures. Eliphas Levi is his prophet.”

Throughout his adventures, Sherlock Holmes (who was not a Mason) has proved to be quite knowledgeable of Freemasonry, spotting Masonic rings and other clues with ease.

Symbols in the Movie

This analysis won’t focus on the actual storyline, but rather on the numerous symbols peppered throughout the film. There might be some spoilers in here, though.

Sherlock Holmes contains a great deal of themes and symbols taken directly from today’s secret societies. They are very subtle and rarely explained in the movie, making them almost invisible to everyday viewers. To “educated” viewers however, those symbols can easily be recognized and placed into context. Although some of them are not historically accurate or have been modified to make them “fictional”, the presence of those themes are in perfect accord with the unprecedented wave of occult symbolism in mass media today. So let’s take a look at some of them.

Black Magic Ritual

The movie starts off with Sherlock interrupting a Black Magic ritual. A hooded man (Lord Blackwood) is reciting incantations in front of a woman laid on a sacrificial altar. The occult theme of the movie is pretty much laid out, right from the start.

Order Out of Chaos

In a seemingly trivial scene, a slightly “altered on morphine” Sherlock plays violin notes to flies in a tube. He explains to Watson his discovery: when he plays atonal clusters to the flies, they synchronize and start flying in concentric circles. Thus, using musical theory, he has created order out of chaos.

“Ordo ab Chao” (which is translated to English to Order Out of Chaos) is probably the most famous Masonic maxim. Mackey’s encyclopedia documents the use of this phrase since 1395 as the official motto of the Ancient Craft Masonry. “Ordo ab Chao” is now the official motto of the highest and honorary degree of Scottish Rite Masonry, the 33rd degree.

Insignia of the 33rd Degree with the saying “Ordo Ab Chao” on top

Some occult researchers claim that the saying refers to the elite’s propensity to create crises which generate fear and confusion in the masses (chaos) in order to introduce new policies and laws that are favorable to them(order). The “pièce of résitance” would be the creation of a New World Order lead by the occult elite after a period of generalized chaos, which would be of their creation. In this context, can Sherlock’s insects flying in concentric circles represent the masses hypnotized by the New World Order’s atonal notes?

Blackwood’s Cell

When Sherlock visits Lord Blackwood at his prison cell, he notices strange engravings on the walls. One of them stands out:

This symbol of a crucified rose is considered to be the first symbol representing the Rosicrucian Order, a hermetic brotherhood dating from the Middle-Ages.

“The original symbol of the Rosicrucian Fraternity was a hieroglyphic rose crucified upon a cross. The cross was often raised upon a three-stepped Calvary.” – Manly P. Hall
Was Lord Blackwood a Rosicrucian?

“Rosicrucians, a name assumed by a sect or cabal of hermetical philosophers ; who arose, as it has been said, or at least became first taken notice of in Germany, in the beginning of the fourteenth century. They bound themselves together by a solemn secret, which they all swore inviolably to preserve : and obliged themselves, at their admission into the order, to a strict observance of certain established rules. They pretended to know all sciences, and chiefly medicine : whereof they published themselves the restorers. They pretended to be masters of abundance of important secrets, and, among others, that of the philosopher’s stone : all which they affirmed to have received by tradition from the ancient
Egyptians, Chaldeans, the Magi, and Gymnosophists.

They have been distinguished by several names, accommodated to the several branches of their doctrine. Because they pretend to protect the period of human life, by means of certain nostrums, and even to restore youth, they were called Immortals ; as they pretended to know all things, they have been called Illuminati; and because they have made no appearance for several years, unless the sect of Illuminated which lately started up on the continent derives its origin from them, they have been called the Invisible Brothers.”
– Enc. Brit., 3rd Edition, Vol. 16, 1797

Some researchers have claimed that the Rosicrucians had “taken over” Freemasonry during the beginning of the 18th century. It has played an important, yet secretive role in the shaping of today’s world.

The Lab

When Sherlock and Watson inspect “The Dwarf’s” lab for clues, some interesting symbols are engraved on the wall.

The detectives discover that the lab seem to mix advanced science with occultism. Another interesting symbol is found on a wall.

The Quabbalistic Tree of Life (Sephiroth)

“The Tree of the Sephiroth may be considered an invaluable compendium of the secret philosophy which originally was the spirit and soul of Chasidism. The Qabbalah is the priceless heritage of Israel, but each year those who comprehend its true principles become fewer in number. The Jew of today, if he lacks a realization of the profundity of his people’s doctrines, is usually permeated with that most dangerous form of ignorance, modernism, and is prone to regard the Qabbalah either as an evil to be shunned like the plague or as a ridiculous superstition which has survived the black magic of the Dark Ages. Yet without the key which the Qabbalah supplies, the spiritual mysteries of both the Old and the New Testament must remain unsolved by Jew and Gentile alike.

The Sephirothic Tree consists of ten globes of luminous splendor arranged in three vertical columns and connected by 22 channels or paths. The ten globes are called the Sephiroth and to them are assigned the numbers i to 10. The three columns are called Mercy (on the right), Severity (on the left), and, between them, Mildness, as the reconciling power. The columns may also be said to represent Wisdom, Strength, and Beauty, which form the triune support of the universe, for it is written that the foundation of all things is the Three. The 22 channels are the letters of the Hebrew alphabet and to them are assigned the major trumps of the Tarot deck of symbolic cards.”
– Manly P. Hall, Secret Teachings of All Ages

Blackwood’s Spellbook

After being summoned by “The Order”, Sherlock is told that Blackwood’s spell book is the key to stop him. This spell book contains some symbols that might be recognizable to readers of this site.

The creature in the middle looks remarkably like Baphomet.

Here’s the next page of Lord Blackwood’s spell book:

De Gaita founded in 1888 the Cabalistic Order of the Rosicrucians, which is consistent with earlier references to Rosicrucianism in the movie.

The Order

In Sherlock Holmes, The Order is an occult brotherhood which can easily compared to “real world” Freemasonry. It is said in the movie that their “secret system has stirred the world to greater good for centuries, but it can also be used for more nefarious purposes … the Dark Arts or practical magic”. The Order has many members in government and police.

Blackwood, a practitioner of Black Magic, takes over The Order by force, claiming that he has a “magnificent purpose”: to create a new future, a future ruled by the Brotherhood. Later in the movie, Blackwood says “The new order … begins now”, which is a reference to the New World Order ushered in by the Illuminati that is said to be taking place today.

Blackwood taking seat at the Throne of The Order. The pyramid in the background has an illuminated capstone, which is considered to be the ultimate “Illuminati symbol”. See the Great Seal of the USA:
Blackwood’s takeover of The Order probably refers to the take over of Freemasonry by German Illuminism and Rosicrucianism during the 18th century, which drastically changed some of its doctrines and lead to its worldwide spread.

So, here’s the major spoiler: All of this occult, magical stuff turned out to be trickery that Sherlock explained with logic and science. So, after the viewers are exposed to the symbols and the Brotherhood, they are told that these things are fiction, and even rather ridiculous. This is kind of surprising, considering that director Guy Richie was married to Qabbalah adept Madonna. Further, the occultism presented in the movie is rather dark, threatening and borderline satanic, which can encourage viewers to associate everything occult with evil, which is not the case. This goes in hand with the Hollywood disinformation covered in this article.

In a rather ominous final scene, Sherlock describes a machine that could exist in 2010 : “Imagine a device able to control anybody simply by saying a command using radiowaves … it’s the future”.

HAARP anyone?

To Conclude

Although the occult elements of the movie are presented as being fictional products of director Guy Richie’s imagination, many of the symbols used are taken from actual occult works. There is no doubt that some research has been done in order to give the movie some “occult authenticity”, but it seems to go further than this. There is a certain cohesiveness in the symbols used, which makes them more than decorative additions, but rather a series of clues pointing towards actual Secret Societies. Were they placed for “those in the know” as a sort of cryptographic message or insider’s joke? Did the director want the viewers to play Sherlock Holmes? These symbols mean one thing for sure: We are witnessing a definite occultization of mass media.

The Occult Symbolism of Sherlock Holmes

Go to URL to see illustrations...

http://vigilantcitizen.com/?p=3230

The Occult Symbolism of Sherlock Holmes
Feb 8th, 2010 | By Vigilant

The latest Hollywood blockbuster Sherlock Holmes revolves around occult murders and world conspiracies.

Relief after Polish police find stolen Auschwitz sign

http://www.expatica.com/nl/news/community_focus/Relief-after-Polish-police-find-stolen-Auschwitz-sign--.html?ppager=0

Relief after Polish police find stolen Auschwitz sign
December 12, 2009

Police arrested five men shortly before midnight Sunday and recovered the five-metre metal sign cut into three pieces.

Auschwitz-Birkenau -- Widespread relief on Monday greeted the recovery of the Nazi German "Arbeit macht frei" sign stolen from the former Auschwitz death camp in Poland, although the theft's motive remained unclear.

"The museum staff were affected by this in a very personal way, so the sense of relief is tangible," Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum spokesman Jaroslaw Mensfelt told AFP.

Police arrested five men shortly before midnight Sunday and recovered the five-metre (16-foot) metal sign -- which means "Work Will Set You Free" in German -- cut into three pieces.

Prosecutor's spokesman Janusz Hnatko told AFP that four people had been charged with the organised theft and damage of an object from UNESCO's World Heritage list and faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The fifth was still being questioned, Hnatko said, adding that "the charges will be different because he ordered the theft."

"His questioning will enable us to learn more about the motive," he explained, adding that the gang had been operating since October.

The theft of the sign from the camp gateway sent shockwaves around the world when it was discovered Friday morning at the site, on the edge of the southern Polish city of Oswiecim.

It came weeks before the 65th anniversary of the camp's liberation by Soviet troops on January 27, 1945, and sparked a police dragnet and beefed-up border controls.

"When we heard the news Friday that this place of memory had been profaned, we just couldn't believe it. It was a mixture of fury and sadness," said Mensfelt's museum colleague Pawel Sawicki.

"It was an attack on one of the most important symbols of the 20th century. It went against everything we try to teach and pass on to people who visit this place," he said.

Hnatko said the sign was being examined in a forensics lab in the nearby city of Krakow. "Once that's finished, it could be returned to the museum, maybe even on Tuesday," he said.

The five suspects are aged 20 to 39 and have criminal records for theft or violence, police said.
Krakow police commander Andrzej Rokita told reporters that none appeared to "belong to a neo-Nazi group nor hold such ideas".

The sign has come to symbolise the horror of the camp in Nazi-occupied Poland.

This was where 1.1 million mainly Jewish prisoners from across Europe died during World War II: some from overwork and starvation, but mostly in the gas chambers. Among the other victims were non-Jewish Poles, Roma and captured Soviet soldiers.

Rokita said that suspects were arrested in a vehicle near Gdynia on Poland's Baltic coast and three in a home near Wloclawek in central Poland.

"The sign had been cut into three pieces at the site of the theft, to make it easier to transport. It had been hidden in a wood near the home of one of the thieves," he added.

On Friday museum staff had put a metal copy over the gate.

Snow and biting wind had Monday all but covered the tracks of the thieves, who had apparently got the sign out through a hole in the camp wall. The only remaining indication was a breach in the barbed wire.

Auschwitz was one of a network of camps set up by Nazi Germany for the extermination of six million Jews and others they considered undesirable. Most were in occupied Poland, home to Europe's largest pre-war Jewish population.

It was initially created for Polish resistance fighters in a barracks in Oswiecim -- Auschwitz in German -- a year after the Nazis invaded in 1939. They expanded it into a vast camp at nearby Brzezinka, or Birkenau in German.

It became a Polish state-run museum and memorial in 1947, two years after the war ended.

Museum director Piotr Cywinski said the 200-hectare (500-acre) site has had to make do with a rudimentary surveillance system, since its limited budget has had to be ploughed into urgent preservation work.

The 200 hectare site, which drew a million visitors last year, relies on Polish funds for 95 percent of its costs -- 6.8 million euros in 2008. The museum launched a 120-million-euro global appeal this year for long-term preservation work and Germany last week pledged to provide half that.

Egyptian temples followed heavenly plans

http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20327243.000-egyptian-temples-followed-heavenly-plans.html

Egyptian temples followed heavenly plans

08 September 2009

ANCIENT Egyptian temples were aligned so precisely with astronomical events that people could set their political, economic and religious calendars by them. So finds a study of 650 temples, some dating back to 3000 BC.

For example, New Year coincided with the moment that the winter-solstice sun hit the central sanctuary of the Karnak temple (pictured) in present-day Luxor, says archaeological astronomer Juan Belmonte of the Canaries Astrophysical Institute in Tenerife, Spain.

Hieroglyphs on temple walls have hinted at the use of astronomy in temple architecture, including depictions of the "stretching of the cord" ceremony in which the pharaoh marked out the alignment for the temple with string. But there had been little evidence to support the drawings. Belmonte and Mosalam Shaltout of the Helwan Observatory in Cairo found that the temples are all aligned according to an astronomically significant event, such as a solstice or equinox, or the rising of Sirius, the brightest star in the sky (Advances in Space Research, DOI: 10.1016/j.asr.2009.03.033).

"Somebody would have had to go to the prospective site during a solar, stellar or lunar event - as we did - to mark out the position that the temple axis should take," Belmonte says. "For the most important temples, this may well have been the pharaoh, as the temple drawings show."

They say in hard times people return to superstition

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sciencetoday/2009/0910/1224254191735.html

William Reville
IrishTimes.com
Thu, 10 Sep 2009 12:09 UTC

Today I want to write about two mysterious human attributes - why we swing our arms when we walk and why we are superstitious. One of the mysteries, the arm-swinging, has recently been explained, but the other remains a somewhat open question, writes William Reville

Why humans naturally swing their arms in opposition to their legs when they walk has long been a mystery. The arms do not touch the ground (if you are having any luck at all with your relative anatomical proportions) and, so, the swinging didn't seem to serve any mechanical function. One explanation was that arm- swinging remains hard-wired into the human nervous system since the time our ancestors walked on four legs.

The mystery was recently solved by Steven Collins, a biomechanical engineer, and others and published online in July in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B . The researchers studied 10 people asked to move their arms in four different ways as they walked - swinging normally, arms held motionless at their sides, arms bound to their sides, and swinging anti-normal (ie in synchrony with each leg) - and they measured the work done by the shoulder muscles as well as the overall effort of walking.

Neither normal nor abnormal arm-swinging require much effort from the shoulder muscles; rather the swinging tends to be a natural consequence of the twisting of the body due to walking. Normal arm-swinging made walking easier. Voluntarily holding the arms steady increased the effort of walking by 12 per cent (equivalent to carrying a 10kg backpack), but forcing the arms to swing anti-normal increased the effort of walking by 26 per cent.

Collins explains that walking naturally tends to make your body spin around a vertical axis. Normal arm-swinging cancels out this effect and consequently leg muscles don't have to work to counter the spinning. On the other hand anti-normal swinging doubles the spinning tendency, forcing leg muscles to work hard to cancel the spinning movement.

Collins concludes that his results "puts to rest the theory that arm-swinging is a vestigial relic from our quadrupedal ancestors. Instead arm-swinging is a sensible part of an economic gait on two legs".

And now to superstition. Many readers will have noted that Tiger Woods wore a red T-shirt when competing with Padraig Harrington in the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational Golf Tournament on August 9th, and also when competing in the final of the US PGA Championship against YE Yang on August 16th. Tiger always wears a red shirt when competing on a Sunday, believing it to be a lucky charm. Most people indulge their own little superstitions even though they acknowledge they make no rational sense. I greatly dislike dating any document as the 13th of the month. How did superstitious habits evolve? Emma Young offers her thoughts on this subject in August's New Scientist (No 2,720).

Our brains have evolved to detect order in the environment and to expect that every outcome has a cause. Some cause and effect relationships are uncertain, but must be responded to and this leaves us prone to superstition. For example, a rustle in the grass could either be the wind or a deadly poisonous snake. Because it is usually the wind didn't mean that our ancestors could afford to be blasé about such sounds. It made more sense to assume that all rustling sounds signalled mortal danger and evolution through natural selection therefore favoured the inclusion of this superstitious belief into the hard-wiring of the brain.

Some psychologists believe religion became established because of the evolutionary benefit of superstition. For example, RI Dunbar proposes ( Oxford Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology , Oxford University Press, 2007) that the main function of religion is to promote social cohesion by persuading people in a community to fall in with the rules of the official authority, and that this is partly achieved by harnessing our natural inclination to believe in Gods that can influence our lives.

Environment and culture influence individual levels of superstition. People who live in danger are far more likely to carry a lucky charm than people who live in settled areas and church attendance markedly increases in hard economic times. Also, it is probably no random coincidence that the "moving statues" phenomenon in Ireland in 1986 occurred at a time when the gravest disquiet was being openly expressed about the health of the national economy.

William Reville is associate professor of biochemistry and public awareness of science officer at University College Cork

Synchro Symbol List

http://conspiracygrimoire.com/synchro-symbol-list/

Archetypes seem to tie us to our age, to our little corner of space-time. This list below is by no means exhausting, but it meant to be more of a number of occult guideposts. When you see these things in the news. Pay attention to what else is going on, and then look for more connections . . .and more connections. . .and more connections . . . and . . aaaaaaahhhh!

These have been gathered from many people’s work. You'll find it emblazoned on medical texts, medical school certificates, medical websites and even in hospitals and medical buildings.

But what does the symbol mean, exactly? I decided to conduct a bit of research to find out some possibilities.

The Caduceus, it turns out, was a staff carried by the Greek god Hermes. Hermes is best known as the messenger of the gods, but he is also well known as the protector of liars, gamblers and thieves. He's also prominently known as the guide of the dead.

According to Wikipedia, the name of the staff, Caduceus, is adapted from the Greek word kerukeion, which means "herald's wand" -- the staff of the public messenger. It's related to the words kerux and kerusso, which pertain to someone who announces information to the public.

From a Biblical point of view, the two serpents on the staff are, of course, symbols of evil and deception. There is a Greek myth about the two serpents on the staff which states that Tiresias found two snakes copulating and he beat to death the female snake with his staff.

So far, then, we have a staff carried by the Greek god Hermes, a protector of liars and thieves (who is also the guide of the dead), named as a staff or wand related to announcing information to the public, encircled by two serpents representing evil, and tied to yet another Greek myth about the female being beat to death.

This is the symbol of modern-day western medicine.

The evil of western medicine revealed
The part about the female being beaten to death is especially relevant, given how our male-dominated western medical system considers virtually all female physiology to be disease (pregnancy, menstruation, etc.). Women are treated like animals in many ways, through endless breast cancer screening and mandatory HPV vaccines. Female organs are considered useless or disease-ridden, such as when hysterectomies are performed to remove women's "hysteria" (madness). That's where the name "hysterectomy" actually comes from, of course.

That the two snakes representing evil would encircle the staff of public announcement could be an indication that the purpose of the staff is to announce evil (the propaganda of western medicine). At the same time, the mythological carrier of the staff is the protector of liars and thieves (the drug promoters and drug companies).

Once you understand the symbology, it becomes quite evident that this prominent symbol of western medicine was not chosen by chance: It sends a powerful subconscious message, much like the symbols of secret societies used on dollar bills, for example (the all-seeing eye floating above the pyramid on the back of the dollar bill). It might even be said that, through the repetition of this symbol which adorns the most important documents and texts used in the medical schools, doctors are, in a very true sense, being continuously indoctrinated with the powerful symbols of evil and death.

Once these impressionable young doctors graduate from their medical schools, they are given the tools of death to "treat" patients: Chemotherapy poisons, toxic pharmaceuticals, scalpels and radiation machines. They slice off women's breasts and call it "cancer prevention." They poison children's brains with chemicals and call it "medicine." They damage and destroy key organs like the heart, liver, kidneys and brain through the forced application of toxic chemotherapy agents, sometimes at gunpoint (as with the case of Daniel Hauser).

And all the while, they sit in their offices, with a dozen diplomas on the walls, many containing the Cauceus symbol that is effectively broadcasting a message into the office space of that doctor, further imprinting his mind with the death agenda of modern medicine.

Do symbols really have power?
If all this sounds a bit odd to you, it might be worth asking yourself this question: Why are all the institutions of power in modern society obsessed with the secret use of such symbols? The entire layout of Washington D.C., for example, is based on Satanic and Masonic symbology: http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.co...

Why are such symbols printed on our currency? A floating all-seeing eye above a pyramid... Isn't that a little spooky? But check your own dollars right now: It's there, keeping an eye on YOU. (It looks similar to the Eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings...) Why is the Pentagon, the building occupied by creators of war and death, shaped like a pentagon? The five-sided geometric structure is, of course, closely related to Satanism. If you really want to explore deep down the rabbit hole of bizarre Satanic symbols in the U.S. military, read this report: http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.co...

By the way, I don't claim to agree with everything I'm listing here. These are just links for further exploration for those who are interested... some of it gets quite bizarre.

If you really want to delve into the bizarre world of symbols and secret societies, read books by David Icke (www.DavidIcke.com). Or check out this book on Amazon.com by Jim Marrs, Rule by Secrecy: The Hidden History That Connects the Trilateral Commission, the Freemasons, and the Great Pyramids. http://www.amazon.com/Rule-Secrecy-...

Of course, you can also find a fair bit of this material on www.PrisonPlanet.com with Alex Jones, or on www.Rense.com with Jeff Rense.

Some people even say that our national leaders frequently flash Illuminati hand signals openly, in public. Here's a YouTube video that shows several interesting examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKWV...

A true symbol of health and healing
I don't profess to be any kind of expert in secret societies or hidden symbols, nor do I believe every single thing I read about the topic, but there's no question whatsoever that symbols dominate the power institutions of our world. The choice of those symbols says a lot about the secret agendas behind such institutions. And the institution of western medicine is symbolized by the Caduceus, a staff entwined with serpents, held by a protector of liars and thieves, to be used for announcing information to the public while beating to death the female of the species.

Don't you find that more than a bit curious?

If I were creating a symbol of health, it would be a simple choice: The radiant sun and a collection of plant leaves. Mother Nature. A river, a stream, a mountain. Something along those lines. It would definitely be based on the sun.

Modern medicine, however, has chosen different symbols to represent its true agenda.

Forget about the TV ads, the press releases and the disinformation spewing forth from Big Pharma and conventional doctors. The true agenda of modern medicine is clearly encoded in its primary symbol: DEATH.

Modern medicine is, as Dr. Gabriel Cousens says, "a culture of death." And he's right: The whole system ultimately delivers death, not health. Its tools are poisons, its goals are to eliminate knowledge of natural remedies, and its primary symbol is based on broadcasting evil while protecting liars.

What could possibly be more fitting for the failed institution of modern medicine?

What is a Symbol?

http://revelationsministries.co.uk/rev.aspx

A symbol is something that stands for or suggests something else by reason of relationship, association, conventional, or accidental resemblance, eg: a visible sign of something invisible.

This is important to know because when we see a symbol we know that there is a meaning BEHIND what is actually being shown since a symbol is a visible sign of something invisible.

A related word, symbolism, is the use of conventional or traditional signs in the representation of DIVINE BEINGS AND SPIRITS. This too is important because many of these symbols also represents Gods and Goddesses.

Symbols can be found almost everywhere we look these days; on logo’s, clothing, architecture, in the form of jewellery etc...
But are these forms of symbolism being used innocently, through ignorance or are they blatantly being used because their true meaning?

Whilst some symbols are harmless there is no denying the fact that symbols are very powerful in the occult and are sometimes used to place curses and even death.
Symbols are used as tools to communicate the attributes of the New Age movement and the occult. While most of these symbols are centuries old, their meanings have remained the same!

In fact as the public extension of ancient occult teachings, the New Age movement has placed mystical symbolism squarely in the face of our modern culture.
What makes this especially disturbing is that while the marks of occultism can be found throughout society, yet we no longer recognise their spiritual implications.

However just because the average person does not know the meaning of occult symbols, it in no way cancels their significance. Manly. P Hall a 33 degree mason and a leading scholar on mythology, mysticism and the occult stated “They are centres of a mighty force, figures pregnant with an awful power....!”

Occult symbols have never lost their true meaning, today New Agers and practitioners of the occult still employ their use just as mystics have throughout the ages.
The fact remains that symbols have never lost their meaning, and occultists today still recognise their power and influence.

REMEMBER!

We must remember that even though many leaders are aware of symbology, not everyone who uses these symbols logo’s etc., are familiar with the pagan connotations behind them.

For example we cannot just assume that everyone who wears a pentagram is evil and knows that this emblem is used extensively in Satanism and Witchcraft.

Many people do not know this and they “innocently” wear Satanic and pagan symbols. We must be careful not to accuse everyone who uses these symbols as being an occultist or New Ager.

If we know that a particular group is an occultic association then the symbol that they use should not be taken lightly. Many of the people who design the logo’s know exactly what they are doing. Some people try to make some of the occultic symbols into ‘Christian’ symbols, such as saying that the pentagram represents the five wounds of Christ or that the triangle is a symbol of the trinity.

The Bible says: “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.” (Acts 17:29)

See also: Deuteronomy 4:15-19, 23.

The Peace Symbol? The peace symbol also known as the broken cross, crows foot, witches foot, broken Jew, Anti-Christ & Nero’s cross. Anton LaVey the founder of the church of Satan used this symbol as the backdrop for his alter!

To occultists the Lazy Eight Symbol represents Lucifer’s internal victory. You may sometimes see this symbol encircling a globe, it means that Satan has put the earth under his control.

The Mano Cornuta or The Horned God This is also a recognition sign amongst Satanists, witches and occultists.

A powerful symbol in the occult world. The hexagram is used mostly in witchcraft to summon demons. The word Hex means; to place a curse on someone.

Black Sun

I abridged this because cites won't come in numerically.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sun_(occult_symbol)

A depiction of the "Black Sun" the design of which bases primarily on the shape of the Wewelsburg sun wheel mosaic in the "Obergruppenführer"-Hall (SS Generals' Hall).

The term Black Sun (German Schwarze Sonne), also referred to as the Sonnenrad (the German for "Sun Wheel"), is a symbol of esoteric or occult significance, notable for its usage in Nazi mysticism. Today, it may also be used in occult currents of Germanic neopaganism, and in Irminenschaft or Armanenschaft-inspired esotericism.

The design has loose visual parallels in Migration Age Alemannic brooches (Zierscheiben), possibly a variation of the Roman swastika fibula, thought to have been worn on Frankish and Alemannic women's belts. Some Alemannic or Bavarian specimens incorporate a swastika symbol at the center. The number of rays in the brooches varies between five and twelve.

Goodrick-Clarke (2002) does connect the Wewelsburg design with the Early Medieval Germanic brooches, and does assume that the original artefacts had a solar significance, stating that "this twelve-spoke sun wheel derives from decorative disks of the Merovingians of the early medieval period and are supposed to represent the visible sun or its passage through the months of the year." He further refers to scholarly discussion of the brooches in Nazi Germany, allowing for the possibility that the designers of the Wewelsburg mosaic were indeed inspired by these historical precedents.
[edit]The Wewelsburg mosaic

The shape of the symbol as it is used within Germanic mysticist esotericism and Neo-Nazism today is based primarily on the design of a floor mosaic at the castle of Wewelsburg (built 1603), a Renaissance castle located in the northwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

During the Third Reich the castle was to become a representative and ideological center of the order of the SS. Heinrich Himmler, the leader of the SS, wanted to establish the "Center of the New World". A focus of the actual SS-activities at the castle were archaeological excavations in the surrounding region and studies on Germanic early history.

The mosaic is located in the ground floor room of the North-Tower of the castle, in the so-called Obergruppenführersaal ("Obergruppenführer hall", completed 1939-1943). The "Obergruppenführer" (literally: "Upper-Group-Leaders") were the highest ranking SS-generals. It is not known if the SS had a special name for the ornament, or if they attributed a special meaning to it. The sun wheel is significant for the Germanic light- and sun-mysticism which was propagated by the SS. In their studies on sense characters, the sun apart was interpreted as "the strongest and most visible expression of god", the number twelve as significant for "the things of the target and the completion" . The mosaic at Wewelsburg itself is dark green on a whitish/greyish marble floor. Probably a golden disc was originally located in the middle of the ornament.

Traditional religion was to be replaced by a "völkisch" (folkish or racial) cult. Instead of Christianity, Himmler wanted a moral doctrine derived from the pre-Christian pagan Germanic heritage. Cultic ceremonies and rituals were part of the everyday life of the SS. The Wewelsburg was to be a center of a "kind-accordant" religion (German: "artgemäße" Religion) - a world-view which was essentially (intended to be) a "revival" of ancient (pre-Christian) Germanic paganism.

In the studies, done during the Third Reich, of the beliefs of the pre-Christian Germanic ancestors, it was estimated that these pagan ancestors believed in "a big force or a big god in the background of the multiplicity of gods and spirits who becomes visible in a multiple way in the universe, on earth and in the life of all beings and facts". So the sun was interpreted as "only one, but a very important and big expression (of that force or god) in the surrounding events and in the life of the ancestors".

The North-Tower of the castle was to be the center of a planned circular estate, 1.27 kilometres in diameter (also see the architectural drawing and model from 1944). The architects called the complex the "Center of the World" from 1941 on.

The North-Tower, which had survived a ruin after 1815, only assumed importance for Himmler starting in the autumn of 1935. In the process of Himmler establishing the castle as a cult site (an ideological and religious center of the SS), the tower was to serve the highest-ranking SS leaders as a meeting place and probably as location for quasi-religious devotions.

Nothing is known about the possible way and the kind of arrangement of designated ceremonies in the tower—the redesigned rooms were never used. According to the architects, the axis of the North-Tower was to be the actual "Center of the World".

The inside of the complete castle was redesigned in an NS-specific mythological way (see the Wewelsburg SS School). SS architect Hermann Bartels presented a first draft of plans that envisioned using the North Tower on three different levels:
Where primary a cistern was a vault after the model of Mycenaean domed tombs was created which probably was to serve for some kind of commemoration of the dead (see photo). The room is unfinished. In the middle exists a preparation for an eternal flame.

A "columned hall" was to be constructed on the ground floor for the SS-Obergruppenführer. The sun wheel–shaped ornament, later called the "Black Sun", is placed here.

Finally, the upper floors were to be completed as a meeting hall for the entire corps of the SS Gruppenführer (not realized).
However, a meeting in the first floor mosaic room never occurred—the building work at the room was stopped in 1943.
In 1945, when the "final victory" didn't materialize, the castle was partially blasted and set on fire by the SS, but the two redesigned rooms in the North-Tower stayed intact.

Usually the room where the sun wheel is placed can only be viewed from the outside, through a lattice door. Due to the lighting conditions, the mosaic in the floor looks black and not green - a possible reason for the name "Black Sun" .

It is not known whether this symbol was placed in the marble floor at Wewelsburg before or after the National Socialist Regime and the taking over of the castle by Himmler. There is speculation as to whether the symbol was put into the hall by the Nazis or whether it was there a long time before but there is no definitive proof either way. It must be noted that the book sold by the Wewelsburg museum on the history of the castle from 1933 to 1945 makes no mention of who put it there. The plans for the North Tower by SS architect Hermann Bartels make no mention of it. Scholars today are reluctant to say with any certainty why it was put there, or by whom. Because the ceilings of the North-Tower were cast in concrete and faced with natural stone during the Third Reich, it is more likely that the ornament was created during the Himmler era.

There is, although its origins are unknown, an identical rendition of the Wewelsburg Schwarze Sonne in a wall painting at a World War II military bunker memorial to Bismarck at Hamburg below a statue of Bismarck (see Bismarck-Monument (Hamburg)). It is with a central piece incorporating a sunwheel and swastikas and the texts "Nicht durch Reden werden große Fragen entschieden, sondern durch Eisen und Blut" ("Great questions will not be resolved by talk, but by iron and blood").

The "Black Sun" is often associated with the mystic-esoteric aspects of National Socialism. Origin of a phantastic post war "SS mysticism" which refers to the "Black Sun" is a right-wing esoteric circle in Vienna in the early 1950s.

The former SS member Wilhelm Landig of the Vienna Circle (esoteric) "coined the idea of the Black Sun, a substitute swastika and mystical source of energy capable of regenerating the Aryan race".

Rudolf J. Mund (also a former SS member and later also member of the Vienna Circle) discusses a relationship of the Black Sun with alchemy. The visible sun is described as a symbol of an invisible anti-sun: "Everything what can be comprehended by human senses is material, is the shadow of the invisible spiritual light. The material fire is - seen in this way - also only the shadow of the spiritual fire."

Nazi and Neo-Nazi significance

The term Black Sun may originate with the mystical "Central Sun" in Helena Blavatsky's Theosophy. This invisible or burnt out Sun (Karl Maria Wiligut's Santur in Nazi mysticism) symbolizes an opposing force or pole. Emil Rüdiger, of Rudolf John Gorslebens Edda-Gesellschaft (Edda Society), claimed that a fight between the new and the old Suns was decided 330,000 years ago, and that Santur had been the source of power of the Hyperboreans.[citation needed]

The Wewelsburg symbol can be deconstructed into three swastikas; a "rising", a "zenith" & a "setting" one, the design is popular among German Neo-Nazis as a replacement for the outlawed singular swastika symbol. Another interpretation is that the symbol incorporates twelve reversed "Sig runes" of the Armanen runes.

Allegedly, the design was drawn for Heinrich Himmler from an "old Aryan emblem", and was meant to mimic the Round table of Arthurian legend with each spoke of the sun wheel representing one "knight" or Officer of the "inner" SS. According to James Twining, "The symbol of the Black Sun unites the three most important symbols of Nazi ideology - the sun wheel, the swastika and the stylised victory rune." and that it is symbolic in its form representing "the twelve SS Knights of The Order of the Death's Head and their three retainers).

Erich Halik was the first to link the esoteric SS with the Black Sun roundel insignia carried by German aircraft in the polar region at the close of World War II.

An image in Elemente, (No. 6, 1998) the journal of the Kassel-based Thule-Seminar, shows a martial warrior holding a shield decorated with the Wewelsburg sun wheel. His upheld sword proclaims the struggle for "rebirth of Europe" against the "holocaust of peoples on the altar of multiculturalism." The German volkish magazine Sol Invictus (magazine) uses the symbol as its masthead. The issue devoted to 'Midnight' shows two sombre knights standing guard beneath the sun wheel symbol.
[edit]Contemporary esotericism

Lists of miscellaneous information should be avoided. Please relocate any relevant information into appropriate sections or articles. (May 2008)

Black Sun Oasis is a chartered local body of Ordo Templi Orientis, (located in Akron, Ohio).

The Black Sun Rising Pylon is a local body of the Temple of Set in New York, NY.

The symbol has been used by a variety of esotericists; for example, as the name of the well-known Black Sun Press of Mary
Phelps Jacob, as well as the official symbol of the occult group Black Order of the Theozoa.

Occasionally, and unscientifically, black dwarfs are referred to as black suns. This is not entirely unrelated to the esoteric meaning, since ariosophy alleges a burnt out sun that was the source of power of the Aryans in some mystical past (see also Karl Maria Wiligut). Others regard the Black Sun as a black hole; before the term black hole was invented in 1967, black holes (then still theoretical) were sometimes called black stars or dark stars. (In episode number 21 of the original Star Trek, Tomorrow Is Yesterday (TOS episode), made before the term black hole was invented, what we today call a black hole was termed a "black star".) Still others, such as Miguel Serrano, think of the Black Sun as a wormhole. Uses of the term in science fiction and fantasy literature are influenced by a combination of the esoteric and the astronomical meaning. See Black Sun (disambiguation) for examples of the term as used in popular culture.

In Edmonton, Canada, there is a company called 'Black Sun Rising', a book and media store, which uses the 'Black Sun' as its logo, as well as selling T-shirts with the 'Black Sun' image and the words "Truth, Honour, Loyalty" and the company name encircled around it.

Alternative design

This article needs additional citations for verification. (January 2009)

A symbol sometimes shown in speculative reports about the occult aspects of the Third Reich.

The symbol of the Black Sun also has an alternative design, possibly a phantasy product of postwar writers, allegedly known as the "Geheimnis Schwarze Sonne"[unreliable source? (this name could also be based on a misunderstanding related to the German book-title "Die innere Welt - das Geheimnis der schwarzen Sonne" (The inner word - the secret of the Black Sun)). The symbol has no direct relationship with Nazism, Himmler or Wewelsburg. Some writers stipulate that this Black Sun symbolism formed a central doctrine to the pre-Nazi secret societies, namely the Black Sun, the Thule Society (Thule-Gesellschaft) and von Liebenfels' Order of the New Templars (Ordo Novi Templi).

In 1988/1990 and 1992 respectively, Austrian researchers Norbert Jürgen Ratthofer and Ralf Ettl produced the documentaries "UFO - Das Dritte Reich schlägt zurück? (1998/1990) (UFO - The Third Reich Strikes Back?)" and "UFO - Geheimnisse des Dritten Reichs (1990) (UFO - Secrets of the Third Reich)" which talks of the Thule Society with the Geheimnis Schwarze Sun flashing on screen and talking about it. Professor Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke states that "In the early 1990s, the Austrians Norbert Jürgen Ratthofer and Ralf Ettl and developed new nazi UFO myths involving ancient Babylon, Vril energy and extraterrestrial civilisation in the solar system of Aldebaran. These colourful ideas are integral elements of a dualist Marcionite religion propagated by Ralf Ettl through his Tempelhofgesellschaft (Temple Sociey) in Vienna, identified as a secret successor to the historic Templars, who had absorbed Gnosti and heretical ideas in the Levant"[40] Ratthofer and Ettl state in "UFO - Geheimnisse des Dritten Reichs (1990) (UFO - Secrets of the Third Reich)"that "Within the SS the Thule Society created a separate secret organisation called the "Black Sun"" with the "Geheimnis Schwarze Sonne" as its logo.[unreliable source?

In 1997 author Peter Moon (real name: Vince Barbarick), wrote a book entitled 'The Black Sun: Montauk's Nazi-Tibetan Connection' in which he refers to this image as the 'Signet of the Black Sun' (a secret order in Germany, also referred to as the 'Order of the Black Sun') and that it is "the symbol of the innermost secret society of Nazi Germany: the Black Sun. It is illegal to print or display this symbol in Germany today." This image and information was, according to Moon, originally provided to him by van Helsing around 1996, along with additional information on Nazi flying discs. Moon alleges that Helsing allegedly got it from Templar groups who emerged from East Germany after the Berlin Wall fell and Germany reunited. The German edition of Moons book on the Black Sun had to have the image removed.

Van Helsing, however, did not write specifically on this symbol and mentioned the Black Sun just in a few phrases. But, from what Moon states, van Helsing could be talking about Ralf Ettl and his Tempelhofgesellschaft (Temple Sociey) in Vienna, identified as a secret successor to the historic Templars.

In 2005 American Scholar Dr. Joseph P. Farrell, in his book 'Reich of the Black Sun', states that this image was adopted by the Thule Society but also adopted as an emblem for von Liebenfels' New Templates. Scholar Joseph P. Farrell states that in contemporary German Federal Law it is firbidden to be displayed. Farrell doesn't cite any sources, either referring to Norbert Jürgen Ratthofer and Ralf Ettl, Jan van Helsing or Peter Moon. Additionally, he states it was adopted by the Thule Society and the New Templars, without citation, and in contradiction to the information supplied by van Helsing and Moon. Farrell has stated that as for primary sources, he does not have one other than Ralf Ettl and Juergen Ratthofer for the Black Sun concept.

In 2007 author Ron McVan publshed written works within a Wotanist context utilising the Alternative Black Sun Symbol.

The transliteration of the text around the signet seen here, beginning from its upper left corner and proceeding around clockwise, is as of today unstranslated.

British Professor Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke B.A. doesn't mention this image in either of his books on the history of occultism in Nazi Germany but shows the Thule Society emblem to have been this image[45][46] and Liebenfels' New Templars logo to be this image.[47]

Fiction

Science Fiction author J.G.Ballard uses the term in "The Day of Forever".

In the novels of the film "Star Wars" the term "black sun" is the name of the most powerful criminal organisation which supports the galactic empire.

The symbol is used on the cover of the fictional novel "The Black Sun" by James Twining and is mentioned extensively. McCloud is the first writer to identify the Wewelsburg sun wheel with the Black Sun myth (of Wilhelm Landig), thereby indicating the esoteric influence of Wiligut and the SS heritage and Aryan-theosophical lore at the heart of Himmler's imaginative world. It was only used as an occult symbol relatively late.

Its earliest known use dates back to Uruk IV (c.3500BCE) in ancient Mesopotamia where the general sense seems to be "heavenly body." By the cuneiform period (post 2600 BCE) the pentagram or symbol UB means "region," "heavenly quarter" or "direction". It has been found on potsherds in the location of Uruk (near the mouth of the Gulf), and more frequently on Jemdet Nasr (3100-2900 BCE) and Proto-Elamite tablets (3000-2500 BCE).

It was also used in Mespotamian art in royal inscriptions and was symbolic of imperial power extending to the four corners of the world.

Among the Jews, Truth and the five books of the Pentateuch were ascribed to the Pentagram.

In Ancient Greece, the pentagram was called the Pentalpha as it is geometrically composed of five letter alphas (A). The Greeks did not generally attribute symbolic meanings to the letters of their alphabet but certain symbols became connected with Greek letter shapes or positions. The geometry of the pentagram and its metaphysical associations were explored by the Pythagoreans who considered it to be an emblem of perfection or the symbol of the human being. The pentagram was also associated with the golden ratio (which it includes), and the dodecahedron, the fifth Platonic solid, which has twelve pentagonal faces and was considered by Plato to be a symbol of the heavens.

It then passed down into post-Hellenic art where the golden proportion can be seen in the designs of some temples.

As a talisman, the pentagram has been found on Egyptian statues and Gaulish coins.

Early Christians connected the pentagram to the Five Wounds of Christ and from then until medieval times, it was a lesser-used Christian symbol. Its form implied Truth, Religious Mysticism and the work of the Creator. The Roman Emperor Constantine I used the pentagram, together with the chirho symbol (a symbolic form of cross) in his seal and amulet.

The annual Christian feast of the Epiphany, celebrating the visit of the three Magi to the infant Jesus had the pentagram as its symbol - although in present times this has changed to the star seen on Christmas cards and the like.

The first English mention of the pentagram appears in the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Gawain, traditionally the Celtic sun-hero, carries a shield " shining gules. With the Pentangle in pure gold depicted thereon". This could be said to symbolise the five knightly virtues of generosity, courtesy, chastity, chivalry and piety.

In Medieval times, the Endless Knot was a symbol of Truth and used as protection against demons. It was used as an amulet of personal protection and to guard windows and doors. The pentagram with one point upwards symbolised summer and with two points upwards was a symbol of winter.

With the foundation of Hermeticism, away from the eyes of the Church, alchemy developed along with its occult philosophy and symbolism. Graphical and geometric symbolism became very important and the period of the Renaissance emerged. During this time, the concept of the microcosm as analogous to the macrocosm became widespread - "As above so below, as below so above". The greater universe of the spirit and elemental matter became a part of traditional western occult teaching, as it had long been in eastern philosophies. So the pentagram came to symbolise Man as the microcosm, representing the Macrocosmic universe.

Closer to today, in the 1940's Gerald Gardner (who came from a background of Ceremonial Magick) brought the pentagram into association with Witchcraft (later known as Wicca), where it is used both upright and inverted as a symbol for the three degress of initiation (see below)

In the 1960's, Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan and adopted the inverted pentagram as its symbol. LaVey borrowed almost entirely from the illustrations of Francis Bacon and the Baphomet image by Eliphas Levi and lumped them together to create the modern association between the inverted pentagram and the goat head. In using the inverted pentagram, Satanists proclaim an alignment with negative (or self-satisfying) powers. Or, to put it another way, the domination of the world of matter over Spirit. The reaction of the Christian church was again to condemn as evil all who took the pentagram as a symbol and even to condemn the symbol itself. This distinction between the upward and downward pointing pentagram also became accentuated within some areas of Paganism and resulted in the concepts of white and black Witchcraft.

Today, the pentagram has become firmly established as a common Neo-Pagan symbol. Its antiquity is certain; its meanings and associations have evolved and been enriched throughout its history. Its use within modern Neo-Paganism as a group symbol is as important as the cross has been in the history of Christianity.

Eliphas Levi's Baphomet - The Goat of Mendes

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 271px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__jAui5OTsRU/Sbl1qVUtqnI/AAAAAAAAAHU/JWhTTMgh4L4/s400/baphomet.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312406605599189618" />

http://altreligion.about.com/od/symbols/a/baphomet.htm

Deciphering A Ninetheenth Century Occult Symbol

By Catherine Beyer, About.com

History of The Name

The term Baphomet is almost assuredly a corruption of the name Muhammad, the last prophet of Islam. The term gained notoriety during the trials of the Knights Templar in the 14th century, when the Templars were accused of, among other things, worshiping an idol called Baphomet. Many of the accusations against the Templars were clearly false, and so many assume this charge was likewise invented by a king trying to get rid of a rich Order to which he was indebted.
Meaning of Levi’s Baphomet

Levi’s illustration has nothing to do with Islam, although tales of the secret knowledge of the Templars might have inspired him to adopt the name of their supposed god.
Levi himself described the meaning of the symbol thusly in Dogme et Rituel:

"The goat on the frontispiece carries the sign of the pentagram on the forehead, with one point at the top, a symbol of light, his two hands forming the sign of hermetism, the one pointing up to the white moon of Chesed, the other pointing down to the black one of Geburah. This sign expresses the perfect harmony of mercy with justice. His one arm is female, the other male like the ones of the androgyn of Khunrath, the attributes of which we had to unite with those of our goat because he is one and the same symbol. The flame of intelligence shining between his horns is the magic light of the universal balance, the image of the soul elevated above matter, as the flame, whilst being tied to matter, shines above it. The beast's head expresses the horror of the sinner, whose materially acting, solely responsible part has to bear the punishment exclusively; because the soul is insensitive according to its nature and can only suffer when it materializes. The rod standing instead of genitals symbolizes eternal life, the body covered with scales the water, the semi-circle above it the atmosphere, the feathers following above the volatile. Humanity is represented by the two breasts and the androgyn arms of this sphinx of the occult sciences."
Polarity
The idea of polarity, such as dividing the world into male and female energies, was a central concept within nineteenth century occultism. This influence is obvious in Levi’s Baphomet in several places:

The gesture of one hand pointing up while the other hand points down, expressing the Hermetic concept “As above, so below,” reflecting how different levels of existence influence on another, whether those levels be intellectual vs. physical, spiritual world vs. material world, or microcosm vs. macrocosm.
Chesed and Geburah, which are two Sephirot on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, which maps out aspects of existence. They are on opposite sides of the tree, which are commonly understood to be male and female, severity and mercy. Chesed represents kindness and love, while Geburah presents power, strength and judgment.
The Latin terms solve and coagula written upon Baphomet’s arms, which translate to dissolve and coagulate, which are opposing alchemical processes.
Multiple physical examples of Baphomet being both male and female (i.e. breasts and phallus; one male arm, one female arm).
The caduceus-like image replacing the phallus, in which the two snakes frequently represent male and female.
Elemental Forces
Baphomet also represents the unity of the four Platonic elements, earth, water, air and fire. Air and water are the easiest to identify through the fish scales (water) and symbolic semi-circle of atmosphere (air). Baphomet’s feet are planted on the sphere of the earth, while fire burns from his crown.

Fertility and Life
The choice of goat-like features for Baphomet comes from several connections between goats and fertility. Levi himself called the figure Baphomet of Mendes, comparing him to a what he believed was a goat-headed Egyptian god honored for fertility purposes. Pan, a Greek god with goat features, was likewise commonly associated with fertility in the nineteenth century.

In addition, Baphomet’s phallus has been replaced with a caduceus, which is considered b some to be a symbol of fertility. Certainly the phallic emphasis can only encourage notions of fertility.

Other References in Levi’s Explanation
Levi’s mention of Khunrath refers to sixteenth century occultist Henrich Khunrath, an Hermetic and alchemist whose works influenced Levi.

Levi describes Baphomet as the sphinx of the occult sciences. A sphinx is most commonly a creature with the body of a lion and the head of human. They originated in Egypt, where they were probably connected with guardianship, among other things. By Levi’s time, the Freemasons were also using sphinxes as symbols of guardians of secrets and mysteries.

Symbols and Their Meaning

Please note: I don't believe that occult symbols are fast replacing Christian symbols in culture. The Bible is full of evil, occult symbols and Christians don't understand this or don't understand that their own symbols are occult. As for being trapped in occult images (see comment after list), we're all trapped in occult images and most of them (including Christian symbols) emanate negative, death energies. Still, it's important that people understand what Symbols and their meanings are so they can avoid them and replace them with Positive Energy/Life Symbols. WARNING: Watch the symbols that are associated with 'Life' because many times they are symbols of death and/or evil. We live in Wonderland and we have to watch the Wonderland Language...

http://www.crossroad.to/Books/symbols1.html

Occult symbols are fast replacing Christian symbols in our culture. Therefore, we encourage you to use this list to warn others, especially Christian children who intentionally wear and display them because they are popular.

Keep in mind that many of these symbols have double or multiple meanings. For example, the pentagram has been used to transmit occult power in all kinds of rituals for centuries, but to Christians the same shape may simply represent a star -- a special part of God's creation. The image of a fish may mean a sign of the zodiac (astrology) to some, but to Christians it has meant following Jesus and sharing the message of His love. We will continue to delight in the cross, while recognizing that others use the same image to represent their dark forces.

Please don't pass judgment on those who happen to wear these symbols. Instead, let us seek God’s will and discernment so that we might all honor Him with our lives. Remember, "each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block. . . in our brother's way." (Romans 14:12-13)

ALL-SEEING EYE: A universal symbol representing spiritual sight, inner vision, higher knowledge, insight into occult mysteries. Look at your $1 bill.

EYE in top Triangle of the PYRAMID: Masonic symbol for the all-seeing eye of god - an mystical distortion of the omniscient (all-knowing) Biblical God. You can find it on the $1 bill. See triangle, Eye of Horus, the Franklin Institute website, and the symbol for the U.S. government's new Total Information Awareness (TIA) System. See also The Revolutionary Roots of the UN

ALCHEMY: This simple 17th century "sign" illustrates the blending of geometric shapes, elemental symbols and astrological signs. Each part representing the various "elements" and forces needed for magical work in the quest for physical transformation and spiritual illumination and immortality. Many medieval alchemists based their philosophies on mystical traditions rooted in the Kabbala (Jewish mysticism), Hermetic magic and the occult practices of ancient civilizations such as Egypt and China. See Philosopher's stone and phoenix.

AMULET: A magic charm (such as this little Navajo bear earring), worn to bring good luck and protection against illness, accidents and evil forces. Don't believe it! [See Establishing a Global Spirituality]

ANARCHY: Popular among school aged children today, this symbol for anarchy fits the message that pervades the most popular video games, role-playing games, movies and television. The lines of the "A" often extend outside the circle. To many satanists and other fast-growing occult groups it represents their slogan, "do what thou wilt." A former occultist explained that it represents the ASMODEAS: a demonic force driving teenagers toward sexual perversion and suicide.

ANKH: An Egyptian cross symbolizing a mythical eternal life, rebirth, and the life-giving power of the sun.

ANGEL: Symbol of good and evil spirits in religions around the world. This picture shows a Tibetan guardian angel. For a comparison between Biblical angels and occult angels read Chapter 8 in A Twist of Faith. For a summary, see Touched by an Angel.

ARROW: These two pictures shows the astrological sign for the archer (Sagittarius) -- part of the zodiac. But, through history, the arrow has also symbolized war, power, swiftness, the rays of the sun, knowledge... as well as deities such as the Greek god Apollo and goddess Artemis (both hunters), the Hindu weather god, Rudra; and various gods of sexual attraction: Eros (Greek), Cupid (Roman), Kama (Hindu).... On ancient Roman coins, it represented the Zoroastrian god, Mithra. The native American Cheyenne warriors revered the "sacred medicine arrows" as symbols of male power. Arrows held by skeletons would point to disease or death. Today, they usually just point in the preferred direction.

Crystal (Gazing) BALL: Used for divination (fortunetelling, scrying, clairvoyance...). When the heavy crystal balls were too expensive, witches often used glass-ball fishing floats, colored glass balls, or magic mirrors. One website that markets these balls beckons: 'Why not buy one and try your own free psychic reading."

BAT: A symbol of good fortune in the East, it represented demons and spirits in medieval Europe.

BLAIR WITCH: A five-pointed compound symbol with a center triangle pointing down. The five lines resemble the microcosmic man with arms and legs outstretched inside a circle (with a pentagram in the background)-- a magic symbol or charm among medieval alchemists and wizards.

BUTTERFLY: Reminds Christians of the amazing transformation that takes place through Christ's redemption and regeneration. When "born again," we become "a new creation." (2 Cor. 5:17) To many pagans, its mythical meaning is linked to the soul (of the deceased) in search of reincarnation. See the new, politically correct meaning at Butterfly 208: "There's a theory that says if a single butterfly flaps its wings in, say, China, the air disturbance may cause a storm in Nunavut, Canada a month later. If that's the case, imagine the power of your own ideas and others to help improve the quality of life in the world's 208 countries! The Butterfly 208 contest is a chance for you to create your own Butterfly effect! 208 = Number of Countries in the World Butterfly + 208 = A totally interconnected world! A world where even small actions can have a big effect."

CHAOS: Apparently a self-made form of occultism taught through role-playing games such as Warhammer. According to one WH fan, "Chaos is the opposite of order. Since everything changes, there is no right or no wrong -- only the quest for pleasure. The 8-pointed star represents the many different directions of chaos and the many ways you can follow it. We worship deamons and angels..." Another comment: "They got it from Elric of Melnibone. In it, the force of Chaos had as its symbol an eight-pointed double-cross (symbols within symbols) with points representing the noncommittal and omnidirectional behavior of Chaos." See Chaos Magic. However, other Warhammer fans disagree with the quote above. Read more here.

CIRCLE (sacred hoop, ring): An ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, infinity, the goddess, and female power. To earth-centered religions throughout history as well as to many contemporary pagans, it represents the feminine spirit or force, the cosmos or a spiritualized Mother Earth, and a sacred space. (See next item) Gnostic traditions linked the unbroken circle to the "world serpent" forming a circle as it eats its own tail. (See serpent)

CIRCLE with a DOT (BINDU) in the center: In the complex symbolic system of Hinduism and Buddhism, the bindu (dot) represents the male force. Together, the circle and the bindu symbolize the merging of male and female forces. (See Sun Sign and the above explanation for CIRCLE)

CIRCLE (quartered): The sacred circle filled with a cross, four equal lines pointing from the center to the spirits of the north, east, south, and west -- or to the basic element: earth, water, air (or wind), and fire. In Native American traditions, it forms the basic pattern of the MEDICINE WHEEL and plays a vital part in major spiritual rituals. Many contemporary pagans consider it their main symbol for transmitting the energy of the goddess. (See sun wheel) Churches have used variations of the same popular shape, usually calling it the Celtic Cross.

Masonic COMPASS: The Masonic symbol of the compass and the T-square represents movement toward perfection and a balance between the spiritual and physical which resembles Egyptian and oriental mysticism. The compass (used to form circles) represent spirit. The ruler (part of a square) represent the physical. Some public schools pass out pencil cases and other gifts decorated with this emblem.

COW: It symbolized the sky goddess Hathor to Egyptians, enlightenment to Buddhists, one of the highest and holiest stages of transmigration (reincarnation) to Hindus.

CRESCENT MOON: A symbol of the aging goddess (crone) to contemporary witches and victory over death to many Muslims. In Islamic lands, crescent can be seen enclosing a lone pentagram.

To grasp the significance of the Biblical cross and its cost to our crucified and resurrected

Savior, read The Cross.

CROSS of Christianity: While anyone--even pagans--now use the cross as decoration or as an occult symbol, Christians must continue to treasure the cross of Calvary. But be careful what kind of cross you wear - and what message you communicate to others. To understand the Christian significance of the cross and appreciate its excruciating cost to our crucified and resurrected Christ, read The Triumph of the Cross and "The Cross".
Inverted cross: Originally represented the apostle Peter's humility in his martyrdom. He insisted that he be crucified upside-down, because he felt that he was unworthy to die in the same position as Christ. But today, especially in the rock music culture, it generally represents the opposite: satanism and its mockery of Christ. Lucifer continues to twist God's wonderful truths and works into lies and deceptions.

Celtic CROSS: The symbol for a cultural blend of medieval Catholicism and ancient Celtic traditions. Sometimes this cross is seen with four additional "arms" dividing the circle into eight instead of four sections.
Notice the similarity between the old Celtic cross and the cross designed by PBS (tax-funded Public Broadcasting in the U.S.) to represent Christianity (left side). Do you wonder why PBS would choose a similar cross (right side) to represent the Quartered Circle of the earth-centered religions of Aborigenes around the world?

The Celtic cross also represents the neo-pagan followers of the French anti-Christian philosopher Alain de Benoist.

CROSS (IRON or Cross Pattée or EISERNAS KREUZ): Adopted as the Iron Cross in Prussia. During the First World War, it appeared on German fighter planes and tanks. Later, it became a fascist symbol in France, Portugal and other nations. Compare it with Swastika 3.

CROSS (MALTESE): This eight-pointed cross (linking the points of four arrowheads at the center) dates back to the First Crusade in the 12th century. It symbolized the Knights of Malta, the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and, apparently, also the Knights Templar. In 1813, during the War of Liberation against Napoleon, it was revivedby Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III and became an award for acts of heroism, bravery or leadership skills.

Double-headed Eagle: A Masonic seal and initiation symbol. The number inside the pyramid over the eagle's head is 33. The eagle is a universal symbol representing the sun, power, authority, victory, the sky gods and the royal head of a nation.

Dove: Peace. It sometimes accompanies other symbols occasionally representing the world's vision of universal peace, such as the rainbow, olive branch, broken cross (see peace), globe, and Egyptian ankh. See Peace and Culture of Peace, which tells us that "'The CULTURE OF PEACE Initiative' is a United Nations-designated 'Peace Messenger Initiative' - with Participants in all the world's regions."

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is, for a moment, made visible as a different kind of dove. It tells us that "Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, 'You are My beloved Son; in You I am vwell pleased.'” Luke 3:21-22

DRAGON : A mythical monster made up of many animals: serpent, lizard, bird, lion... It may have many heads and breath fire. To mediaeval Europe, it was dangerous and evil, but people in Eastern Asia believe it has power to help them against more hostile spiritual forces. In the Bible it represents Satan, the devil.

DREAMCATCHER : An American Indian magic spider-web inside a sacred circle. After making dreamcatchers in crafts lessons in school, many children hang them on or near their beds. They have been told that these occult symbols will block bad dreams but allow good dreams to pass through the center. Don't believe that myth! [See New Beliefs for a Global Village]

ELEMENTS: The four basic elements to many pagans are earth, water, air (wind or spirit) and fire. Many consider the first two passive and feminine - and the last two active and masculine. In Wiccan or Native American rituals, the "quartered circle" (also the Medicine Wheel) represents a "sacred space" or the sacred earth. The four lines may represent the spirits of the four primary directions or the spirits of the earth, water, wind and fire.
(This set of elements differs from those used in alchemy.)

EVIL EYE: The symbol of a dreadful, fabled curse (believed to bring sickness, death, bad luck loss...). This "evil eye" has frightened people in many parts of the world through the centuries. Here it looks like a female eye on the "Hand of Fatima," but its shape varies with the culture.

EYE OF HORUS: A favorite crafts project in schools, it represents the eye of Egyptian sun-god Horus who lost an eye battling Set. Pagans use it as a charm to ward off evil. (See All-Seeing Eye)

FLEUR-DE-LIS: Also called Lily of France, it was first an adaptation of the Gaulish lily representing the Virgin Juno. Among goddess worshippers, it apparently had several meanings, including the Triple Goddess. It appeared in Arthurian legends as well as on the French (and other national) "coat-of-arms" and royal or military emblems. It has also been an emblem for the Boy Scouts.

FROG: A symbol of fertility to many cultures. The Romans linked it to Aphrodite, the Egyptian to the shape-shifting goddess Heket who would take the form of a frog. To the Chinese, it symbolized the moon -- "the lunar, yin principle" bringing healing and prosperity. Since frogs need watery places, their image was often used in occult rain charms.

HAND OF FATIMA (daughter of Muhammad) or KHAMSA (five): Many Muslims believe that the image of the hand with an eye in the center will protect them from the "evil eye." While this symbol often appears on magical charms, amulets, and jewelry, it is seen here on the trunk of a car. See a similar image painted next to the main door to a home here. This Khamsa seems to be the same as the Jewish Hasma (below). See the next two symbols:

HAND OF FATIMA or HAMSA (five): Jewish versions of the supposed "hand" of protection (above) from "evil eye" (Some expect protection from demons and sorcerers as well). During the Israelites' exile in Babylonian, some began to blend Old Testament beliefs with Babylonian myths and mysticism. Such syncretism continued through the centuries. One of its manifestations was the mystical Kabbalah -- the heart of many streams of modern occultism (including the Order of the Golden Dawn and other secret societies, Tarot cards and divination, etc.)

HEARTAGRAM: Originally a logo of "Love Metal" band, HIM, whose fans would wear the symbol --within a circle -- as a tattoo. But it's popularity has spread far beyond the band that designed it. To many, it represent the dialectic or blending of opposites such as love/hate and life/death. See Pentagram, Popular Occultism and Yin yang

HEXAGRAM (see triangles) or SIX-POINTED STAR: When surrounded by a circle, it represents the "divine mind" (a counterfeit of God's wisdom) to numerous occult groups through the centuries. Many still use it in occult rituals. But to Jewish people, it is their Star of David.

HOOK 'EM HORNS & HORNED HAND (Mano Cornuto): "President Bush's 'Hook 'em, horns' salute got lost in translation in Norway, where shocked people interpreted his hand gesture during his inauguration as a salute to Satan. That's what it means in the Nordics when you throw up the right hand with the index and pinky fingers raised, a gesture popular among heavy metal groups and their fans in the region....'Shock greeting from Bush daughter,' a headline in the Norwegian Internet newspaper Nettavisen said." "Norwegians Confused by Bush Salute"

INFINITY: In ancient India and Tibet, it represented perfection, dualism, and unity between male and female. In the occult tarot it's linked to magic and represents equilibrium or the balance of various forces. The uroborus (a circular serpent biting its tail -- a UN symbol for "Human Settlements") has been found in this shape. In modern times, it became a secular mathematical symbol for infinity in numbers, time or space (eternity).

ITALIAN HORN (Cornu, Cornicello, Wiggly Horn, Unicorn horn, Lucifier's horn or Leprechaun staff). The ancient magical charm or amulet worn in Italy as protection against "evil eye" has also been linked to Celtic and Druid myths and beliefs. Other superstitions link it to sexual power and good luck. It is often worn with a cross (for double protection or luck?). In pre-Christian Europe, animal horns pointed to the moon goddess and were considered sacred.

LABYRINTH: “...predate Christianity by over a millennium. The most famous labyrinth from ancient times was in Crete... the supposed lair of the mythological Minotaur.... Turf labyrinths still exist in England, Germany and Scandinavia, and are thought to be linked with local feminine deities and fertility rituals.... The patterns of the labyrinth are similar in design and conception to the mandalas of South Asian Buddhism, which are physical representations of the spiritual realm designed to aid in meditation. Labyrinths blend their visual symbolism with the process of walking, which is similar to the Japanese Zen practice of kinhin, literally 'walking meditation... In the early 90’s, when Jean Houston, one of the leading New Age teachers, introduced the Christian world again to the use of this practice for seeking spiritual enlightenment through walking the labyrinth." Steve Muse, Esoteric Christianity

LIGHTNING BOLT: In ancient mythologies from many cultures (Norse, Roman, Greek, Native American, etc.) the lighting bolt would be hurled by male sky gods to punish, water, or fertilize the earth or its creatures. Navajo myths linked it to the Thunderbird, the symbol of salvation and divine gifts. On children's toys, it represents supernatural power. Double bolts, popular with contemporary skinheads, symbolize Nazi power.

LION: An ancient symbol of the sun, dominion, power, ferocity and bravery, the "king of the beasts" was often used on heraldic shields, flags or banners by medieval European rulers. In Tarot cards, an occult system of divination based on the Kabala, it symbolized strength or power. In ancient mythology it was identified with sun worship and the imagined power of both gods and godesses. The lion head ringed by its golden mane would used in ancient mystery initiations and ritualistic sun worship.

While pagan nations used it to represent their mythical views of reality, the lion was created by God. In the Bible, we see how He used it for His purposes.

LIZARD: Its "sun-seeking habit symbolizes the soul's search for awareness." To the Romans, who believed it hibernated, the lizard meant death and resurrection.[2]

Magic MIRROR: Used for "scrying" (foretelling the future, solve problems, answer questions....) The preferred spectrum might decorated with "magic signs" during full moon rituals. Rosemary Ellen Guiley explains: "The ancient art of clairvoyance achieved by concentrating upon an object-- usually one with a shiny surface-- until visions appear....The term scrying comes from the English words descry which means 'to make out dimly' or 'to reveal." The Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft, 307.

MANDALA: The Hindu term for circle. In Hindu and Buddhist meditations, it is used to raise consciousness. In meditation, the person fixes his or her mind on the center of the "sacred circle." Geometric designs are common. The center of some mandalas show a triangle with a bindu (dot) inside a circle. It represents the merging of male and female forces.

MASONS (Freemasons): The Masonic symbol of the compass and the T-square represents movement toward perfection and a balance between the spiritual and physical which resembles Egyptian and oriental mysticism. The compass (used to form circles) represent spirit. The ruler (part of a square) represent the physical. Some public schools pass out pencil cases and other gifts decorated with this emblem. See All-Seeing Eye, Eye of Horus, and Dreamcatcher. Read "Masonic Centers are dream catchers," then "Brotherhood of Darkness" by Dr. Stan Monteith.

MASK: Used by pagans around the world to represent animal powers, nature spirits, or ancestral spirits. In pagan rituals, the wearer may chant, dance and enter a trance in order to contact the spirit world and be possessed by the spirit represented by the mask. The mask pictured represents the mythical Hindu elephant god, Ganesha.

MEDICINE SHIELD: A round shield decorated with personal symbols or pictures of the animal spirit(s) contacted on a Spirit Quest or through a classroom visualization simulating an American Indian ceremony. Its basic image is often the form of the "medicine wheel" or quartered circle. [See The Earth Charter's Unholy Ark]

OM: Sanskrit letters or symbol for the "sacred" Hindu sound om (ohm or aum) called "the mother of all mantras. Apparently, the four parts symbolize four stages of consciousness: Awake, sleeping, dreaming, and a trance or transcendental state. [See Heresy in high places]

OWL: Cherokee [Indian] shamans viewed Eastern Screech-Owls as consultants on punishment and sickness. The Cree believed that the whistle-sounds of the Boreal Owl was a summoning call to the spirit world. Other Native American traditions hold that the owl represents vision and insight. In Africa the owl is associated with witchcraft and sorcery. Australia, China, Greenland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia and Sweden all have cultures or mythical traditions that give spiritual significance to the owl. Probably one of the most bizarre occurrences of owl symbolism can be found at the "Bohemian Club." Find this and more information at Wise Old Owl

PEACE SYMBOL or a BROKEN UPSIDE-DOWN CROSS: Like many simple symbols, it meant different things at different times. Some call it Nero's cross, linking it to the notorious Roman emperor who persecuted Christians. Centuries later, it was recognized as an old Norse Rune. After WW2 (1939-1945), it was found on the tombstones of some of Hitler's SS troops and labeled 'The Dead Man Rune.' Revived in the sixties by hippies and others who protested nuclear weapons, Western culture, and Christian values, it became a worldwide symbol of a new age of global peace and earth-centered unity. But many heavy metal rock fans would agree with Nero and have used it to mock Christ and His followers.

PENTACLE or PENTAGRAM (FIVE-POINTED STAR pointing up): A standard symbol for witches, freemasons, and many other pagan or occult groups. To witches, it represent the four basic elements (wind, water, earth and fire) plus a pantheistic spiritual being such as Gaia or Mother Earth. The pentagram is also "used for protection. to banish energy, or to bring it to you, depending on how it's drawn," wrote a Wiccan visitor. Compare with the next link.

PENTAGRAM (FIVE-POINTED STAR pointing down): Used in occult rituals to direct forces or energies. Often represents satanism, the horned god or various expressions of contemporary occultism, especially when a goat-head is superimposed on the inverted pentagram within a "sacred" circle. See Heartagram, Baphomet and Pentagrams and Pentacles

PHILOSOPHERS STONE: The symbol for the Alchemist quest for transformation and spiritual illumination, it was also the British title of the first Harry Potter book (the U.S. publisher changed it to Sorcerer's Stone). The double-headed eagle in the center is a Masonic seal. See also the Phoenix.

PHOENIX: A universal symbol of the sun, mystical rebirth, resurrection and immortality, this legendary red "fire bird" was believed to die in its self-made flames periodically (each hundred years, according to some sources) then rise again out of its own ashes. Linked to the worship of the fiery sun and sun gods such as Mexico's Quetzalcoatl, it was named "a god of Phoenecia" by the Phoenician. To alchemists, it symbolized the the destruction and creation of new forms of matter along the way to the ultimate transformation: physical (turn lead into gold) and spiritual (immortality - an occult alternative to the Christian salvation). The philosopher's stone was considered the key to this transformation.

SCARAB: Symbol of the rising sun, the Egyptian sun god Chepri (or Khepera), and protection from evil. To ancient Egyptians, the dung beetle rolled its dung balls like Chepri rolled the sun across the sky. The "sacred" symbol adorned popular seals, amulets and magic charms (worn as protection against evil spirits or to overcome barreness) first in Egypt, then in Phoenicia, Greece and other Mediterranean lands. Medieval alchemists used its pattern in their magical diagrams.

SERPENT OR SNAKE: Most earth-centered or pagan cultures worshipped the serpent. It represents rebirth (because of its molting), protection against evil, either male of female sexuality, rain and fertility, a mediator between the physical and spiritual world.... The list is endless, but in the Bible it usually represents sin, temptation, destruction, and Satan. (See dragon) The circular image of the serpent biting its tail links the mythical significance of the serpent to that of the sacred circle. See uroborus.

SPIDER: Linked to treachery and death in many cultures, it was seen as a "trickster" in ancient Africa, a "spinner of fate" in ancient goddess cultures and -- in ancient Greek myths -- the goddess Arachne turned into a spider by her jealous rival Athena. "Christian" cultures have linked it both to an evil force that sucked blood from its victims and to "good luck" because of the cross on the back of some species. The Chinese have welcomed the spider descending on its thread as a bringer of joys from heaven.

SPHINX: Ancient Egyptian and Babylonian guardian of sacred places --an idol with human head and a lion's body. The Greek sphinx would devour travelers who failed to answer her riddle. According to A New Encyclopedia of Freemasonry (by Arthur Waite, xii) the masonic sphinx "is the guardian of the Mysteries and is the Mysteries summarized in a symbol. Their secret is the answer to her question. The initiate must know it or lose the life of the Mysteries. If he can and does answer, the Sphinx dies for him, because in his respect the Mysteries have given up their meaning." (An occult, counterfeit view of redemption) See www.srmason-sj.org/web/temple.htm

SPIRAL : Linked to the circle. Ancient symbol of the goddess, the womb, fertility, feminine serpent force, continual change, and the evolution of the universe. (Illustrated at this website)

SQUARE: In contrast to the circle which often symbolizes the sacred and spiritual (including the "sacred" earth), the square represents the physical world. Like the quartered circle, it points pagans to the four compass directions: north, east, south and west. While the circle and spiral symbolize female sexuality in many earth-centered cultures, the square represents male qualities.

SUN FACE: The pictured image is part of an 18th century Masonic ritual painting, but it illustrates a symbol that has been central to most major spiritual systems of history. Since the sun god usually reigned over a pantheon of lesser gods. his symbol played a vital part in pagan worship (and in the rituals of occult secret societies) around the world. In Inca myths, the sun was worshipped as the divine ancestor of the nation. For links to more information, see Sun face in our Q&A section.

SUN & MOON JOINED AS ONE: A universal pagan expression of the merging of opposites. Like the Yin Yang, the marriage of the male sun and the female moon represents unity in diversity, compromise instead of conflict, and conformity to a new consciousness where all is one. (See The Marriage of the Sun and Moon)

SUN and SUN SIGN : The sun was worshipped as a personified, life-giving deity in Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and other major civilizations of history. The more common symbol is the familiar face in the center of the sun's rays. (This will be explained in our report on the Teletubbies. (See sun symbol below the picture of the Eye of Horus) A dot or point in the center of a circle symbolizes the blending of male and female forces. (See air, which also represents spirit, among the symbols for Elements) Hindus call the midpoint in a circle the bindu - the spark of (masculine) life within the cosmic womb.

SUN SIGN 2 : Found in Turkey and believed to represent the sun and the four directions. (See Swastika 1 and 2). Compare the curving lines with the primary lines of Swastika 3, the iron cross. Notice also that without the horizontal line, the symbol resembles the outline of the Yin-Yang.

SUN WHEEL or RING CROSS : A universal symbol found on ancient slabs in Nordic countries, in pre-Columbian America and in Mediterranean countries. "Today, it is used as a log by some new fascist organizations," according to the Dictionary of Symbols. [3] Like the swastika and other sun symbols, it represents power and supremacy. See also Circle (Quartered) It serves as a logo for the Swedish national socialist party, Nordiska Rikspartiets (scroll to drawing of the sun wheel on a banner), and for the French Jeune Nation.

SWASTIKA 1 : Ancient occult symbol of the sun and the four directions. Revived by Hitler, it represents racism and the "white supremacy" of neo-nazis. Like other occult symbols, it is often placed inside a circle. The swastika is actually a pre-Hitler elitist symbol that has been found in the Skull & Bones vault at Yale. There is also a swastika on the gravestone of John Ruskin (mentor of Cecil Rhodes, who formed the secret Society of the Elect 'to take the government of the whole world,' in Rhodes' own words). In TIME AND TIDE (1867), Ruskin wrote that "...the Government must have an authority over the people of which we now do not so much as dream." According to award-winning author Alan Axelrod, Ruskin was 'reportedly a student of the ILLUMINATI.'"

SWASTIKA 2 (Crux Dissimulata): An ancient swastika which symbolized the four winds or directions and their corresponding spirits. It was also a "fire and sun symbol occurring initially in Asia and later among the Germanic tribes," according to The Herder Symbol Dictionary.[4] "The cross inscribed in a circle mediates between the square and the circle," emphasizing the "joining of heaven and earth.... and "the perfected human being."

SWASTIKA 3: A contemporary variation of the many swastikas with labyrinth patterns. Like the two swastikas above, its arms point counterclockwise indicating a mystical, lunar and female orientation. Compare its two intersecting lines with Sun Sign 2, its curved arms (following the shape of the circle) with Swastika 2, and its dark areas with the Iron Cross.

The TAO: An ancient Chinese symbol used originally to represent a widespread belief in unity, polarity, holism, and magic. See the Yin-Yang and read a longer definition in the Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, who suggested the Tao as an ethical system for our times.

THEOSOPHY: A simplified version of the symbol behind the occult beliefs of UN leader Robert Muller (his World Core Curriculum became a worldwide pattern for global education) and education leader Shirley McCune [See Star Wars Joins United Religions at the Presidio and The International Agenda] Notice the ankh in the center. The more elaborate version inserts a variety of other symbols such as the OM, pentagram, cross, etc. (Because of its dark occult meaning and similarity to some of the complex magical signs used in alchemy and masonic rituals, we prefer not to post it.)

TOAD: Linked to witchcraft and other occult practices.

TONGUE (protruding): Linked to flame, fire, fertility, sexual power and spiritual power. In nations around the world, images of deities or masks with protruding tongues have indicated active and occupying spiritual forces -- often a union of masculine and feminine spirits. Such images were vital to pagan rituals invoking [demonic] spirits. The sexual/spiritual forces represented by gargoyles with protruding tongues which adorned Gothic cathedrals were believed to protect the buildings from other spiritual powers.

TOTEM: Carved, painted representation of power animals or animal-human ancestors. To American Indians in the Northwest, who believe that all of nature has spiritual life, the animals in their totems poles represent the spiritual powers of animal protectors or ancestors.

TRIANGLE (earring pictured): Associated with the number three. Pointing upwards, it symbolizes fire, male power and counterfeit view of God. (See pyramid) To Christians, it often represents the Trinity. Pointing down, it symbolizes water, female sexuality, goddess religions and homosexuality. See chart of symbols in What Teletubbies Teach Toddlers.
See a large picture of Kabbalistic triangles and how they are used together in ritual magic.

TRIDENT: Called "the devil's pitchfork," it has symbolized major gods in various pagan cultures. In India, it is linked to the Hindu "trident-bearer" Shiva, spouse of the skull-bearing goddess Kali. More recently, this three-sponged spear has been used by Hindu militants in India to intimidate Christians. See article: "India Local Government OK's 'Anti-Christian' Weapons Distribution"

UNICORN: To many New Agers, it means power, purification, healing, wisdom, self-knowledge, renewal and eternal life. Origin: In the 4th century BC, Greek historian Ctesias told about a wild animal with healing powers and a spiral horn on its forehead. Medieval myths suggested it could only be caught with help from a virgin who would befriend it.

UROBORUS: The circular serpent biting its own tail represents eternity and the cycles or "circle of life." Medieval alchemists linked it to the cyclical processes in nature. The uroborus pictured here (encircling the UN symbol for humanity seen inside a triangle) was the official symbol on for the 1996 United Nations Conference on Human Settlements pictured on all its literature. See (Habitat II). See other versions of the Uroborus at serpent. and at www.uroborusgnosticeditions.com.au

WHEEL: A universal symbol of or cosmic unity, astrology, "the circle of life," evolution, etc. The pagan sacred circle plus any number of radiating spokes or petals form the wheel - a Wheel of Life to Buddhists, a Medicine Wheel to Native Americans, a Mandala to Hindus. It symbolizes unity, movement, the sun, the zodiac, reincarnation, and earth's cycles of renewal. Pagans use it in astrology, magic and many kinds of rituals. (See Medicine Wheel and Quartered Circle)

This SUN WHEEL became a magical amulet to the Celtic Gauls or Gaels in Europe. Later, "Christians adopted the form, changing it slightly, so that it became a Christ monogram drawn within a circle." [celticrevival.com]

Tibetan Prayer WHEELS: "devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being. Rolls of thin paper, imprinted with many, many copies of the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum... are wound around an axle in a protective container, and spun around and around. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying this mantra, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion." (From The Prayer Wheel)

WHEEL OF DHARMA: Buddhist wheel of life and reincarnation.

WISHBONE: Civilizations dating back to the 4th Century (Etruscans, Romans... Britain, America) have held turkey or chicken wishbone contest. Pulling the dry turkey or chicken bone until it snapped ("lucky break"), they believing the winner's wish or dream would come true. In today's increasingly superstitious culture, many believe that this symbol will "catch" their dreams, bring good luck, and make their wishes come true. As in contemporary witchcraft or magic, the object becomes a channel of "good" energy. Astrology and horoscopes link it to Saggitarius. It might also be confused with the Lambda (looks like a lower case, upside-down "y"), the Greek letter adopted by the International Gay Rights Congress in 1974 as the global symbol of homosexual "pride".

WORLD TRIAD: Originally an oriental symbol, it was "adopted by western Gnostics as an emblem of cosmic creativity, the threefold nature of reality or fate, and the eternally spiraling cycles of time... In Japan it was maga-tama or mitsu tomoe, the world soul.... In Bhutan and Tibet, it is still known as the Cosmic Mandala, a sign of the Trimurti."5 Like the yin yang (below), it also represents eternity. This is also the symbol for U.S. Department of Transportation. Another Gnostic symbol is the uroborus.

YIN YANG: A Chinese Tao picture of universal harmony and the unity between complimentary opposites: light/dark, male/female, etc. Yin is the dark, passive, negative female principle. Yang is the light, active, positive principle. Since the holistic balance between Yin and Yang is dynamic and constantly changing, it illustrates the consensus process, the vision of global unity, and the blending of opposing energies at the heart of Holistic Health.

Since it represent monism (all is one) and pantheism (all is God), it opposes Christianity, which shows us that there is only one God (monotheism), and only in Christ can we be one. See The Tao
COMPOUND SYMBOLS

ASTROLOGICAL CHART: used by medieval alchemists in divination. Notice the symbol of the intellect and of the planet (and Roman god) Mercury inside the center triangle. This triangle is surrounded by a hexagram and two smaller triangles positioned as male and female energy - and seven more concentric circles. Compound symbols within magical codes and names inside multiple circles have been used by occultists and sorcerers in many parts of the world. It is still used in African witchcraft.

All-seeing EYE in the PYRAMID: The official symbol for DARPA Total Information Awareness, a surveillance and information system established by they U.S. government. [See programs] Notice how the masonic all-seeing eye of the new world order covers the planet with its enlightening rays. [Sometime in December 2002, this symbol was removed from the TIA website. Perhaps too many people complained. See Federal database spy site fading away]

The GREAT SEAL (back side) of the United States of America: "An unfinished pyramid appears on the reverse of the seal, inscribed on its base with the date 1776 in Roman numerals. Where the top of the pyramid should be, the so-called eye of Providence watches over it. Two mottos appear: Annuit Cœptis signifies that somebody (presumably Providence) has "nodded at (our) beginnings". Novus Ordo Seclorum, a quotation from Virgil, refers to a "new order of the ages", i.e. a paradigm shift." See www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Great-Seal-of-the-United-States

The GREAT SEAL of the United States of America: The design for this national emblem was completed in 1782. Some consider its occult and masonic images an American mission statement. The inscribed motto, E Pluribus Unum means "Out of many, one." The words Novus Ordo Seclorum mean "a new order of the ages," according to this website: www.greatseal.com. The two sides show the symbol of the eagle (first a phoenix) and the eye in the pyramid. See All-Seeing Eye & Eye of Horus & Great Seal. But the more correct meaning would be NEW WORLD ORDER [novous = new, ordo = order, seclorum = secular or world] See also www.greatseal.com & A More Perfect Union

The SEAL of the SENATE "...includes a scroll inscribed with E Pluribus Unum floating across a shield with thirteen stars on top and thirteen vertical stripes on the bottom. Olive and oak branches symbolizing peace and strength grace the sides of the shield, and a red liberty cap and crossed fasces represent freedom and authority. Blue beams of light emanate from the shield." www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Seal-of-the-United-States-Senate

FASCES: "...a bundle of wooden rods tied together as a cylinder around an axe. ... The fasces lictoriae ("bundles of the lictors") (in Italian, fascio littorio) symbolised power and authority (imperium) in ancient Rome." www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Fasces

UNITED RELIGIONS: Its former symbol joined 14 religious symbols together in a circle around planet Earth. The new symbol(s) shows a linear list of 16 religious symbols with a world map in the background. By clicking on the symbols, you can find each of their meanings. But each symbol will be presented from an occult or universalist perspective -- even the cross. See Star Wars Joins United Religions at the Presidio

Warning Concerning Symbols

In the world of the occult, many symbols are imbued with power by the magician working in conjunction with the demonic spirit world. The Wiccan leader Starhawk, founder of the Covenant of the Goddess, knows that well. "To cast a spell is to project energy through a symbol," she wrote in The Spiral Dance, her popular manual for witchcraft.

Since the occult use of symbols have spread like epidemic across the Western world, we want to exercise caution. Therefore, when we began to add pictures to the original list of symbols, we decided to leave out certain images – particularly satanic symbols that obviously represent evil. Though many were already familiar to children in public schools, we didn’t want to risk implanting those images on a child’s mind. (We will explain why in another note.) We also left out the theosophical symbol, some of the more complex masonic symbols, and other symbols typically used for magic and alchemy. To explain, let me share an important lesson I learned about five years ago.

I was speaking at a Bay Area Sunday School Convention (BASS) in California on the topic, "The Unholy Power of Charms and Symbols." Parents and teachers were still crowding into the small auditorium, when I began showing transparencies of simple symbols such as the yin-yang, the peace symbol, and the ankh. We discussed why these symbols were important to people long ago – and why their popularity has skyrocketed today.

Then we looked at more universal symbols such as the pentagram, the lightening bolt, the sun, and the circle -- including the Wiccan quartered circle, the Native American medicine wheel, and the Buddhist wheel of life. "Why are they considered universal?" I asked. "What mythical themes do they echo from around the world? Why are they so important to multicultural education?" (We will post a chapter from A Twist of Faith which answers these questions.)

Finally, we looked at compound symbols. (You can see an example at the end of the current list of symbols.) The day before the conference, I had been searching for a particular combination of symbols found in a Theosophical emblem. By the time I did find it, it was too late to put it on a transparency. Then I had made a foolish decision: I prepared to draw the occult image onto the transparency in front of the class.

Putting the clear transparency on the projector, I drew a large circle, then added two overlapping triangles (one pointing up, one pointing down), forming a hexagram. I began to fill in various single symbols: the pentagram, swastika…. Suddenly, something dark and heavy hit me in the chest. For a moment I lost both my balance and my breath, then, in a flash, I knew what was happening. I had unwittingly performed an occult ritual common to Buddhist and Native Americans traditions as well as to medieval alchemy. By the very act of drawing the symbols, I had invoked a spiritual entity.

Still in front of the crowd and the microphone, I cried out, " "Forgive me, Lord! Cover me with your blood. In the name of Jesus Christ, I declare Your victory over the evil one. In You, we are 'more than conquerors!' Thank you, Jesus, my Lord and my King!"

I apologized to the audience, asking their forgiveness for imposing on them a ritual that brought forth this evil. Then we all thanked God for His lesson and protection.

As fast as the demonic entity came, it was gone. Among the people gathered around me afterwards was a woman who said, "I think I know what happened to you. While you were drawing that symbol, the man sitting next to me was moving his hands in strange ways and murmuring something as if he was casting a spell. He may have come to bring occult interference."

It didn’t surprise me. I have often encountered challenges me when I address these topics in public places. But God has always used it for good, giving me answers on the spot as well as ongoing opportunities to share with them God’s truth and wisdom.

Only God knows exactly what happened. But His Word is full of warnings concerning any participation in the works of darkness. If I opened the door to evil interference through my foolish demonstration, a servant of Satan could surely work with the evil one to enhance his work. God, who promises never to give Satan more reigns than His love allows, will still allow the painful consequences needed for our training in obedience.

Though we fellowship at a small, non-charismatic, non-denominational Bible church, God has often put me in places where I have had to help those who were trapped in occult bondage. Through these lessons, I have learned to look with sober caution at the power of evil. Yet, all the more, I praise my Lord for His continual protection and faithfulness

As our nation slides back toward paganism, God’s people need to understand the increasing influence, trickery, and cruelty of the evil one – while always thanking and following our God, whose power is far greater. Therefore, I plead with all of you to exercise great caution when confronted with any sign of Satan’s work. Please read the section on God's armor, and remember that we leave the "breastplate of righteousness" behind when we go where He tells us not to go. For the armor that covers us is the very life of Jesus, our Lord. Walking with Him in His ways, we are always safe.

The Meaning Of The Most Popular Occult Symbols

The Meaning Of The Most Popular Occult Symbols
http://www.articlesbase.com/religion-articles/the-meaning-of-the-most-popular-occult-symbols-442670.html

Posted: Jun 8th, 2008

The most popular of occult symbols is the Endless knot. Although many versions of endless knot exist, the most popular one is the pentagram. This five pointed star was used by almost all the ancient cultures including China, Greece, Europe, Latin America, India as well as Egypt. References to this occult symbol has been found in the Neolithic cave walls, Babylonian paintings and in even in Scriptures.

According to the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, five was the number of man and each of the five points of the pentagram represents the five elements water, earth, spirit, fire and air. The top corner represents the crown of the human head and the remaining four points represent the tips of the limbs. In the Kabbalistic tradition, the pentagram is also believed to represent justice, mercy, wisdom, understanding and awe-inspiring beauty.

The pentagram is considered so powerful that it is used in magickal purposes to forge a connection to the creative universal energies. It is also used in magickal tools, rituals and sacred jewelry.

The Circle is a symbol for the cycle of eternal life. In its simplest form, it is the universal symbol of Unity, infinity, the Moon or Goddess. To pagans, it represents Mother Earth of the feminine spirit of the Cosmos. The circle with a dot represents the male energy merging with female spirits. A quartered circle symbolizes the four directional spirits of the East, South, West and North. In Native American traditions, it is used in the form of a medicine wheel during ceremonies. Everyday uses of the circle include the wedding ring, the sacred circle cast in rituals and the number zero.

Eye of Horus is another symbol that has been used for centuries. Horus was the Egyptian falcon God and the Eye of Horus resembles the falcon%u2019s eye. It is also said to represent the Sun god Ra. This occult symbol is believed to ward off evil energies and is also connected to mathematical proportions of medical preparations. This symbol may be seen in many buildings, in crowns used by royalty as well as in protective amulets and other jewelry. The Masonic Eye found on American dollar bill, is descended from the Eye of Horus.

The Tao is an ancient Chinese symbol that has become very popular. It usually consists of two interlocked symbols, one white and the other black. Tao is also a Chinese character which represents a path or way. In its manifested state, Tao symbolizes yin and yang, the aspects of life, sometimes believed to be the female energy and the male energy.

The Swastika is an ancient occult symbol which combines the Sun and the four directions of the Earth. This ancient occult symbol of the cross inscribed in a circle (see Circle above) also signifies the joining of heaven and earth or the perfect being that we all are. Another version of the Swastika with four labyrinths denotes mystical, lunar or female energies. Although the loathsome Nazis abused this symbol, it continues to be used in many cultures to celebrate the fact that we are all perfect human beings.
